Description

A beautiful walk along the most important ancient street of the Roman Empire, an exciting visit of the underground tunnels of the Christian Catacombs and the multi-layer Basilica of Saint Clement.

A fascinating walking tour where time stopped!

The tour includes the Catacombs named after Saint Sebastian, definitely one of the most important underground burial sites since both Saint Peter and Saint Paul were buried here for two centuries.

We’ll walk along the ancient Appian Way, one of the earliest and strategically most important Roman roads built in the fourth century B.C.

It connected Rome to Brindisi, in southeast Italy, and its importance is indicated by its common name, recorded by the latin poet Statius who named it the Queen of all Roads.

The Basilica of San Clemente, a Twelth Century church with one of the best preserved mosaics from that period that decorate the apse. But, there’s something more to discover…in the nineteeth century an Irish monk discovered under the basilica an incredible system of ruins that goes about 15 meters underground. The first level is a fourth century A.D. basilica, then we will reach a Pagan temple dating back to the second century A.D., and at last a public building from the first century A.D.

A different tour that gives you a taste of how these places looked like many centuries ago. An interesting and pleasant walk away from the crazy traffic and the noise of Rome, you will love it!

Feel the Essence!
